How to Size Hockey Equipment
How should my Hockey Skates fit?
From a sitting position, kick your heel back into skate. Toes should barely touch the top of the skate. While lacing the heel should be kicked back several times to insure a tight fit.
When lacing is complete, the foot should feel comfortable,(the back of the foot is snug while resting on the foot bed and your toes should be comfortable and flat.)
Fitting Children's Skates
Follow the same steps
Buy ½ size larger (to allow for room to grow) – Do not go over ½ size larger, this could result in problems with the skate
How should my Helmet / Mask fit?
Measure the distance around your head, placing the tape measure above your eyebrows.
Use this measurement along with level of play to get the appropriate fit.
Open helmet fully
Position helmet on head with rim one finger width above eyebrow, gradually adjust size until you get a snug fit
Tighten and secure helmet (Helmet should be snug enough to prevent rotation while the chin and adjustment strap secure) **Helmet must fit snug, a helmet that is to large could result in injury
The face mask should correspond with the size and model of the helmet (***All faceguards must meet GSA or ASTM Standards and be approved for use with the helmet they are attached to.)
How should my Shoulder Pads fit?
Measure your chest just below the armpits. Shoulder pads should fit snug, making sure the shoulders are properly under the shoulder caps, and the bicep pads should not interfere with your elbow pads.
How should my Neck Protector fit?
Measure your neck. Neck Protection should cover the throat completely (bib style should cover your upper chest)
How should my Gloves fit?
Measure the distance between fingertips and elbow pads. (forearm should be bent during measurement)
Gloves should not be to large as to interfere with holding the stick, and not to small where your fingertips hit the end of the glove
Palm of the glove should be thinner, the thumb should be protective yet flexible. Padding should be dense. ** Gloves that are worn or do not fit properly should be replaced .
How should my Hockey Pants (Breezers) fit?
Measure your waist. (smaller players should choose the waist size in a smaller pants)
Pants/Breezers should meet the top of your knee and cover your kidney area and lower ribs with the foam padding.
Pants are available for use with belts, laces or suspenders to allow for growth.
How should my Shin Guards fit?
While sitting measure from center of kneecap to top of skate boot.
Shin guards should be secured with strap or tape, not tight hockey stockings.
If a shin guard is too short / long, it will result in critical areas being exposed and could result in injury.
How should my Elbow Pads fit?
Measure the length between your shoulder pads and the cuff of your glove.
Then fastened, no gap should be between the pad and your bicep extension of the shoulder pad or the cuff of the glove. |
